Nakuru Open Squash Tournament 2012

Nakuru Open Squash Tournament 2012

The Nakuru Squash Tournament held at Rift Valley Sports Club in Nakuru on the 26th to 28th October 2012, proved to be a very big success. This is the first time we have had an entry of almost 80 players from Kenya, Uganda, Rwanda and Romania.

The tournament was sponsored by KENGEN with a prize money of Kshs. 60,000/-. KENGEN have sponsored the Nakuru open Squash tournament since the year 2004.

This year we received a contingent from Uganda who proved to be a hard nut to crack for Kenya. The Contigent included Mike Kawooya, Ian Rukunya Kajubu , Brian Okumu, Paul Karirye and their Coach Dereck Banyu. They have been doing something right since they were able to extinguish the Kenyan flames of the likes of David Ngunjiri and Leon Keya who were beaten in the Round of 32 and semi finals respectively by Mike Kawooya of Uganda. The Eventual Winner Modecai Kabamba from Zambia Survived two breathtaking matches in the Quarter finals where he edged out Paul Karirye of Uganda, 3-2 with the final game going to 11-8 and really had a exhilarating, suspense filled, mouth watering match   in the final with Mike kawooya that was too close to even spell. The match ended at 3-2 with the final game score being 12-10. “I must admit, there is something the Ugandans have done right this time”, Modecai Kabamba Said.

Other teams included the KENGEN Contingency, Barclays Bank team, City Council of Nairobi and KSRA team.

The ladies event was worn by Beatrice Musyoka from KENGEN who walloped Flora Bilali of Nakuru 3-1. The plate event was worn by Aarmir Didarali who beat Tauseef Khan 3-1. A new group called the super plate was introduced that was worn by Salim Khan who beat Bethwel Ogwayo of KENGEN 3-2. Click the link below to download the final draw.
