KENGEN PARKLANDS OPEN REPORT 2015
The Kengen Parklands Open Squash tournament was proudly sponsored by KENGEN who have been great supporters of the game of squash for a very long time. The total sponsorship was Ksh. 400,000/= with Ksh. 150,000 of the sponsorship being used as the prize money. Parklands Sports club hosted the tournament.
This year we were blessed to have players from the region including Uganda and UK based based Kenyan. With a huge entry of about 90 players with 20 of which were juniors and improve entry of ladies, a fun filled week of total squash was experienced at Parklands Sports club and came to a close on 21st December after along week of good squashing. There was a total of 4 categories: Group A, Group B, Ladies and juniors.
The senior’s tournament created some epic matches right form the first round the group B had most of the players participating in this category. The finals were between James Dalidi and Lawrence Matuvo from Uganda, where Dalidi won 3-1. Group A had very exciting matches right from the beginning. The Most entertaining match was in the quarter finals between Paul Kadoma form Uganda and Abubakr Chaudhry from Kenya. Where Kadoma proved to be unbeaten and quite a fighter, he finally managed to win 3-2. In the semis Kadoma met with Chirag Shah but was not able to progress to the finals as Chirag beat him 3-0. Other notable suprises were the Veteran Leon Keya upsetting the higher seeded Otto Kwach 3-0 in the quarter finals to book a slot with the Harrow sponsored Muqtadir Nimji at the Semis where he lost 3-1 after nearly pulling a surprise.
CHirag Shah, the UK based Kenyan had a good run by beating Muqtadir Nimji 3-1 with a show of basic and simply squash that managed to contain the ever attacking Muqtadir Nimji. Despite the nicks and knee breakers Muqs played, he finally succumbed to the well composed game of Chirag Shah. Other categories played were the plate events which were organized for first round losers.
In the Ladies category Safina Madhani beat Salimah Nimji 3- 0 whereas Khaaliqa Nimji beat Elizabeth Mulwa 3-0 both in the semi- finals. In the Final Khaaliqa proves to be unbeaten again after winning 3-0 against Safina. At the end of the week a packed gallery was treated to very good squash snacks and drinks after the presentation.
