The Kipepeo Open squash Tournament 2017 was held at Kipepeo country lodge Mtwapa and attracted a total of 30 entries. Kipepeo Country Lodge has successfully hosted this event for 5 years in a row and is looking forward to bigger and better tournaments at the coast. We had many fresh faces such as the rubber band Bruce Jusa who managed to out run the aging Leon Keya at the semis when Leon was two games up but just could not manage to tame the very swift, youngster. Bruce later fell to James Dalidi who had survived a scare in the semis from the veteran John Mbuvi after their game went to the wire. James finally took match at 3-2 to set up a tantalizing final between the two on form players.

The match between James and Bruce was fire from the beginning, with James scraping through in the first game at 14-12 and rushing Bruce in the second game at 11-4. Bruce did his comeback tactics and took the third and fourth games 11-5 and 11-7 respectively by employing retrieval tactics combined with exquisite lobs and drives to take the match to 2-2. However James proved to be too strong for Bruce to finish the 5th game at 11-3 and capture the Kipepeo trophy for the third time.

The ladies on the other hand saw new faces such as Jane Ndunge, Shalin Chepkemoi and Jane Njeri who were all playing extremely good squash. Shalin Chepkemoi prevailed against Jane Njeri 3-2 in a hard fought match to set up a final with the more experienced Elizabeth Mulwa, only to fall to Elizabeth 3-0 in the final.

Our gratitude goes to Kipepeo Country Lodge Mtwapa for hosting this tournament for the fifth time in a row and the players who participated. We look forward to a bigger and better tournament next year.
